Olympic bobsledder Joel Fearon will compete for Switzerland from the 2019-20 World Cup season following the Great Britain team agreed to launch him on a’loan bargain’.
Fearon was part of the four-man Sochi 2014 crew who were retrospectively awarded bronze following the disqualification of 2 sleds for doping offences of Team GB.
In World Championship events and World Cup, similar to in the Olympics, sledders can compete.
The 30-year-old – an 100m runner, who’s joint fourth on the record that is British – will compete for Switzerland in the coming World Cup and World Championship events .
GB Bobsleigh acquired more than # 5m into Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018 from the build-up but UK Sport eliminated all financing as soon as they neglected to challenge for a medal in those Games.
Fearon has since become a dad for the third time and, the former athlete sees the compensated transfer to Switzerland because the sole means to keep in the game, as he obtained no private financing from UK Sport.
“Joel came with a petition to slide for among the Swiss pilots this year after he was made an offer we, as a now unfunded game, were not able to match,” said brand new British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association seat Joanna Poulton.
The return of Olympian Greg Cackett, that has spent the past 18 months together using British Cycling has encouraged the GB team.
