Dele Alli rescued a late point for Tottenham to deny visitors Watford a first Premier League win of this year amid movie assistant referee (VAR) confusion.
Hornets keeper Ben Foster flapped with Alli, in an cross Together with the hosts desperately seeking a way back into the game.
The video assistant referee determined it and reviewed the target was correctly given. The large screen, however, indicated that the choice has beenno purpose. Following a spell of confusion, the goal stood.
For large periods before the intervention of Alli, it had looked as though the side of Mauricio Pochettino were going to endure a defeat in six matches.
Watford, who lost Danny Welbeck took the lead once home Daryl Janmaats cross captured.
And they had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Chris Kavanagh – and the VAR – when Jan Vertonghen attracted down Gerard Deulofeu.
But, their wait for a first Premier League win proceeds despite coming agonisingly close and they remain bottom.
Watford will feel hard done by after VAR controversy.
It looked like they should have had a penalty when 1-0 up in the first half as Vertonghens monitoring leg pulled down Deulofeu from the box.
The VAR chose in not awarding a punishment Spurs escaped Chris Kavanagh hadnt made a error. Just onedecision has been affected by the VAR from the Premier League all year – with most reversals down to factual incidents.
It seemed as if the Hornets was provided a reprieve when the big screen statedno intention from Allis equaliser – although Kavanagh eventually made apparent the target had stood.
Players arent allowed to touch the ball with their arms before scoring – even accidentally – under regulations. It was determined, but that the target should stand together with all the call that was marginal deeming that the ball had come off the shoulder of Alli.
