Dele Alli rescued a late stage for Tottenham to refuse people Watford a primary Premier League win of the season amid movie assistant referee (VAR) confusion.
Together with the out-of-form hosts seeking a way back Hornets keeper Ben Foster flapped with Alli controlling his shoulder before turning the ball into the internet.
The video referee determined it and reviewed the goal was properly awarded. The big screen suggested that the decision wasno goal. After a spell of confusion, the goal stood.
For large periods before the intervention of Alli, it had appeared as though the side of Mauricio Pochettino went to suffer a defeat in six games.
Watford, who lost Danny Welbeck took the lead once Abdoulaye Doucoure captured the cross of home Daryl Janmaat.
And they had a strong penalty appeal turned down by referee Chris Kavanagh – and the VAR – when Gerard Deulofeu was brought down by Jan Vertonghen.
However, their wait to get a Premier League win continues despite coming close and they remain bottom.
Watford will feel hard done by after more VAR controversy.
It looked like they ought to have had a penalty when 1-0 up in the first half since the trailing leg of Vertonghen brought Deulofeu in the box down.
The VAR decided Spurs escaped in not awarding a penalty Chris Kavanagh hadnt made a error. Onedecision has been affected from the VAR in the Premier League all year – using most reversals to factual events such as offside.
It then looked like the Hornets had been provided a reprieve once the major screen statedno intention from Allis equaliser – though Kavanagh made clear the target had stood.
Players are not allowed to touch the ball before scoring with their arms – accidentally – . It was determined that the aim should stand with all the call that was marginal deeming the ball had come the shoulder of Alli off.
More to follow.
