The newly-published technical record of UEFA is full of interesting insights to last season’s Champions League, however there’s one statistic that stands out strongly.
According to its findings, more than half of those goals scored at the contest – 185 to be exact – came from ownership regained in the opposition third.
It is an eye catching detail that reflects the expanding prevalence of pressing at the level of this match. The report specifically highlights that the”outstanding intensity” of Liverpool’s media in their semi-final second-leg triumph over Barcelona. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men weren’t the only ones to profit from compelling errors up the pitch.
