Another Saturday of NHL action is set to perform on October 12. Fourteen games are around the board during Saturday. Among those games set to return will probably be between the Dallas Stars and the Washington Capitals. Both of these teams are thought to be early contenders this year. This match will faceoff at roughly 8:00 PM Eastern time on Saturday night.
Washington has started the year with a list of 2-1-2, that includes them. This was not while the Capitals are sitting at the cap of the division. Washington has lost their last few games after a 2-0 start to the season. The Capitals will seem to get back on course with a road victory on Saturday.
The Stars are now in fifth place of the Central Division with a record of 1-3-1. Dallas hasnt been off to the start they had been hoping for after making some moves. The Stars have earned points in their past two matches, but will look to build up a winning series to get back into a winning record.
Both the Capitals and the Stars have a great deal of talent on their roster because they made playoff runs last season. Washington was pumped out at seven matches, while Dallas moved on to the second round before being knocked out. Both of these teams havent had the best begins but will play at an early summer matchup on Saturday.
Dallas and washington met throughout season. The game has been in Washington. Even the Stars jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but the Capitals were able to fight back. Jason Dickinson completed Washingtons comeback bid with a goal in overtime. The Stars hosted the match and it was another one. Tyler Seguin scored his second goal of the night at overtime to give Dallas the win.
The Capitals and the Stars have already met this year up . Evgeny Kuznetsov opened up the scoring with a goal in the first period. John Carlson gave Washington the lead back after this was tied by Roope Hintz up. Nicklas Backstrom then played with hero because he played thirty seconds left in the game to tie it up. Tyler Seguin completed the game with the overtime winner to give Dallas the win.
Dallas was in a position to acquire the 3 games against Washington heading back to last season. The Stars only win this year came in the street from the Capitals and they will look to make their second win of the season too from Washington. These two teams have been in eight of the last nine matchups against each other, making me expect another match on Saturday.
The Capitals have had a lot of power play chances to receive their special teams moving so far this season. Washington has scored four power play goals. The Capitals penalty kill has been doing well also, stopping competitions on twelve of their fifteen power play chances. Washington will look to keep up these numbers .
Dallas special teams hasnt been doing on this season. The Stars have just scored one power play goal around fourteen chances this season to get a 7.14 power play percentage. Dallas has committed twenty five penalties, but also have only allowed three goals to get an 85.71 penalty kill percentage.
The Stars will look to change some things because they seem to get their power play moving. Both teams have set up a penalty kill that was good however, Washington has a slight edge as their power play has already been functioning. Together with Alexander Ovechkin to the power play it is always hazardous and Dallas will appear to neutralize it.
Braden Holtby will probably get the nod in net in this match for the Capitals. Holtby has gone so far this season to 1-1-2 in his starts. He has earned a save percentage of .868 and a GAA of 3.67. Last year, Holtby went 32-19-5 with a .911 save percentage along with a 2.82 GAA. Holtby has not been off to a fantastic beginning, but I expect him to get it going sooner rather than later.
Ben Bishop is expected to begin on Saturday night. Bishop has gone this season to 1-2-1. He has posted a save percentage of .910 plus a 2.48 GAA. As he ended with a record of 27-15-2 bishop had been a Vezina Trophy finalist last year. In those games he had a .934 save percentage along with a GAA of all 1.98 to help lead the Stars into the playoffs.
Neither goalie was off to the start, but Bishop has put up the numbers that are greater so much this year. Bishop had the better season last season, but Holtby is still a strong netminder. I expect him to turn around this start. I think because he seems to provide the Capitals a much needed win Holtby will try to find some revenge against the Stars.
The Stars were able to choose the very first game of the season series between these two groups, but I believe that Washington will rebound right back with a road triumph of their own. Neither team was off to an ideal beginning, but Dallas has not been doing better than the Capitals. Washington teams may help give them a boost and it might help the Capitals pull off the road mad, when his groove can be found by Holtby.
BetOnline has Dallas listed as a -115 against the money line. This suggests that the Stars will win this game around 53.5 percent of their time. I feel that this sport should be closer in favor of the Capitals or to even. Washington is on a losing run against Dallas, but streaks come to an end. I think that the Capitals may finish their three game skid on Saturday with a road win against the Stars night.
