Every year people wonder, once the playoffs come around ; will this be the year that Clayton Kershaw doesnt dismiss it? And at some point, he charges his team a chance at a World Series Championship and blows . Therefore, once I watched Kershaw along with the Dodgers as favorites in game , my attention was grabbed by it.
And when I saw that on the opposite side of the starting pitching matchup, we had Stephen Strasburg beginning, whos coming off his finest regular season of his career and had an ERA of just .40 life in the playoffs, I had been all in on the angry, and backed the Nationals in +141.
And Kershaw did as he got rocked for three runs in the first two innings as I expected. He ended up hurling six innings and finally settled down, but the damage has been done, and the Nationals was able to hold onto the lead, and a underdog ticket was cashed by us. Strasburg pitched six innings on rest, allowing one run and striking out ten along the way.
Im petrified of this Nationals bullpen, and we all found at the wild card around as they attracted Strasburg instead of turning it over to their relievers out of the bullpen, that the Nationals were. Last night, They did it in game two. After viewing him give up runs and earning Sean Doolittle, the Nationals brought in card newcomer Max Scherzer at the eighth inning on basically no break. Scherzer mowed hitting out all three men he faced on fourteen pitches.
Scherzer is slated to begin game three, and at this time, it seems that the Nationals are going to ride their starters as far as they can, simply by using them or whether by beginning them. The win for Washington was tremendous with Mad Max heading in game , and because they have stolen home-field advantage away from LA, theyve a wonderful opportunity.
Last year we watched by using their bullpen all game, it is made by the Milwaukee Brewers all the way, and the Nationals are doing the specific opposite. Itll be interesting to see how it works out for them. For todays pick, well return into the American League, in which the Houston Astros play with the Tampa Bay Rays.
We have a pitchers duel in our hands tonight in Houston since the Astros host the Rays in match two of the American League Divisional Series. The Astros took the series lead in game one behind a sterling effort from Justin Verlander. Verlander allowed only 1 hit and pitched seven shutout innings, and the Astros won the game 6-2. Jose Altuve homered for Houston, and theyll look to push the Rays to the edge of elimination tonight in game two.
Starting for the Rays is a years Cy Young Award winner in the American League Blake Snell (6-8 4.29 ERA), and also for the Astros its Gerrit Cole (20-5 2.50 ERA). The match total over-under is set in seven and a half conducts. The Astros are giant -295 dwelling favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 6:07 PM PST from Minute Maid Park in Houston.
In the majority of years, Gerrit Cole would walk away with all the Cy Young Award. His twenty two wins are second in the match, along with his 2.50 ERA is tops in the AL.. He led the league in strikeouts with 326. This man had a year for the ages. But teammate Justin Verlander was just as good, if not better, as Verlander threw a no-hitter, had more wins (21) and led the league in WHIP (.80), while hitting 300 himself. Both guys have been nearly unhittable as they both certainly deserve it and if there were any justice, theyd split the award.
Cole really turned it on in the second half of this year because his ERA post-All-Star fracture was a blink and youll miss it 1.79 in two starts. He had 156 strikeouts in only ninety-five and two-thirds of an inning pitched. The Astros have lost just three games over the mound as April! Houstons record over that interval is 23-3. Cole has had twelve out of his thirteen and double-digit strikeouts in nine successive starts.
Blake Snell nt looked like the same man that won the Cy Young Award last season through the years first several months. Throughout June, he had been just 5-7 with a 4.97 ERA. He started to figure out things in July, though, because he was 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA in three starts, before becoming injured and missing almost two months. Snell rejoined the group and they have used him very sparingly since hes pitched only six innings in 3 starts. If they want any shot at disturbing the Astros the Rays will require a massive effort out of him tonight.
Look, this is a poor number. The Astros are great, and they are likely to win this collection. But to see them laying nearly -300 together with the AL Cy Young Award winner, against a gifted Rays team simply does not make any sense. That being said, Houston is going to win this match.
The Rays lineup had nothing for Verlander yesterdayand I expect a similar performance tonight. Therefore, while the Astros have been over-priced, it cant be touched by me since they are going to win the game. But when I see the match total of seven and a half runs, I always feel as the under offers value.
Cole is going to shut down the Rays, and I think he is really good, and I expect him to give a great performance tonight, even though Snell has not looked great recently. Both starters will get deep into the game, and dont be shocked if they are still in the match in the seventh inning or later. And if they do turn things over with their bullpens, you can expect great results there as well as the Rays and Astros finished number one and three in bullpen ERA this season.
Playoff baseball will be lower scoring, and this feels like a kind of game. I will expect a pitchers duel and a low scoring game tonight. Give me the under seven and a half conducts tonight in game from Houston!
