England scrum-half Ben Youngs says he needs something special out of his World Cup following the disappointments of 2015 and 2011.
Youngs is one of four survivors, along with center forward Dan Cole and Manu Tuilagi and Courtney Lawes, from the group that went to New Zealand eight decades ago.
England were beset by off-field controversies since they failed to get out of the group stages four years ago, went out in the quarter-finals at 2011.
Youngs stated:”Neither of them was the result that I wanted.
“I think anyone wishes to look back at the end of their career and feel pleased with success – along with also the World Cup is always the pinnacle.
“This opportunity here with this aspect is just about the best shot I have of being able to look back in a time of my career and say, yeah, that was something really special.”
Youngs was 22 when he left his World Cup debut in New Zealand eight years ago, scoring the try in Dunedin as England squeezed past Argentina within their first group game.
However, they struggled from there on, an team night out in Queenstown creating Tuilagi and a tabloid storm to Auckland harbour.
Their defeat with a France team that had lost to underdogs Tonga led to the resignation of head coach Martin Johnson along with also three separate reviews into what went wrong at exactly what the RFU’s director of elite rugby, Rob Andrew, afterwards called”the World Cup out of hell”.
Youngs told BBC Radio 5 Live:”I am proud of this fact I have been to two World Cups earlier – I’m proud of 2011 in that I was there, also at 2015 representing England at a home World Cup, that was an achievement in itself.
“Every experience is different. All of them teach you something. And the experience from 2011 made sure you send on that and then also keep centered on the pitch.
“There were a lot of distractions going on in that championship that didn’t assist us to deliver.
“World Cups are odd things, and I don’t have the magic formula – it’s sport, it occurs. It occurred to us.
“I will sit here and say I’m determined it won’t happen again, but I can’t promise it.
“But it’s what coming up that matters – about this group currently under Eddie Jones. There are several guys who played 2011 and 2015 who did not get another chance at a World Cup.”
Their campaign opens .
The Pacific islanders have been thumped 92-7 by New Zealand in a warm-up game this particular season , conceding 14 attempts.
But Youngs – that the number nine in history – is conscious of the threat they might pose in the championship proper.
“If you play with Tonga and Samoa and South Africa, you know they are regarded as the most physical teams, plus they seldom disappoint,” he said.
“We have got to create certain that physically we’re up to the challenge – they are likely to find a good deal of belief through how they take the ball and the way they handle.
“They are big guys, so we have to be smart in how we carry the ball and which stations we go down – they surely will not give us any room around the ruck or getting momentum round there.
“You need to be individual. What you have to avoid is falling into the snare of fool area, in which you shift it too early and see exactly what you believe is an chance or space, and then they get cover there.
“There’s no hiding – you must get through a team initially before it is possible to create the space out wide.
“They can lure out you and then, boomthey close it down and go really hard in the breakdown and also make it very hard for you.”
