Gabriel Martinelli scored two goals and set up another as a greatly rotated Arsenal side turned to thrash Standard Liege 4-0 in their Europa League Group F assembly at the Emirates Stadium.
Teenager Martinelli, a 6m signing from Brazilian side Ituano during the summertime, started the scoring with a superb header after 13 minutes and then netted his second having a low, curling end just three minutes after, making it four objectives from two matches after his dual against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
Joe Willock struck Arsenals third goal (22) following a shot against fellow academy grad Reiss Nelson deflected into his path within the Standard Liege box, together with Dani Ceballos finishing the scoring in the second half, poking Martinellis deft cross on the line for his first goal for the club (57).
The side of unai Emery missed a succession of opportunities to extend their lead but the success is another step towards the Europa League knockout stages subsequent to the 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening group match.
