After Saturdays opponent Tyrone Spong returned a negative doping test, oleksandr Usyks first bout at the division is in peril, says promoter Eddie Hearn.
Usyk, 32, gathered all four world titles at cruiserweight and his move up a branch has been anticipated.
But Surinamese-Dutch fighter Spongs place is in doubt after Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada) testing.
Weve book competitions standing by, tweeted Hearn.
We have been approached by Vada to notify us that theres been an adverse finding in Tyrone Spongs evaluation. Its been sent into the State of Illinois commission
Hearn said therell be an update on Tuesday.
Usyk is scheduled to face Spong at Chicagos Wintrust Arena in his first departure since quitting Britains Tony Bellew at November, when he defended all four world cruiserweight titles.
Spong, 34, spent much of his combat career and competed before winning his first 14 battles as a fighter in kickboxing.
Vada works in boxing and MMA and needs fighters or promoters to pay for testing for the duration of a struggle build-up. It stated Spong was part of its testing programme in 20 September.
Even the Las Vegas-based Vada was responsible for evaluations which caused the likes of Western Jarrell Miller and has made a glowing reputation in boxing and also Mexicos SaulCanelo Alvarez facing bans for doping in the last few decades.
