Wales are covering chunks in baby oil to prepare for humidity.
The technique is one of a number attempted for their Pool D championship opener against Georgia as Wales build-up on Monday, 23 September at Tokyo City.
“We have been using wet balls and already been using baby oil on them too,” said coach Warren Gatland.
“We’ve taped them up too, and we have already been through this procedure from the [training] camps we had.”
Gatland says preparations in Turkey and Switzerland have been meant to assist his players cope with the states in Japan.
“We’ve been into two camps in which one was in altitude and it was quite hot in Switzerland, then it was the late 30s in Turkey,” he said.
“We’ve done as far as possible in terms of addressing the warmth.
“I believe the humidity is going to be a factor. With the later kick-offs those temperatures will drop to about 20 levels, although You’re able to observe how warm it is.
“It’s going to be a whole great deal cooler, however, the battle then will be the humidity and dealing with a slick ball. It is how we cope with that.
“The players who’ve already been around New Zealand may have experienced that. I come in Hamilton, it’s incredibly humid there.
“We all know what it’s like and we’ve got players who have undergone a great deal of night rugby, thus we feel we have prepared well. We’re looking ahead .”
After facing Georgia, Wales and Fiji, Australia and Uruguay play with since they challenge for the quarter-finals in the closing campaign of Gatland in charge.
