The Pittsburgh Pirates are back in PNC Park after Engaging in the Little League Classic from the Chicago Cubs in Bowman Field last night.
They shot the Cubs it. Their run came by Sterling Marte off Craig Kimbrel at the top of the 9th. It had been the first pitch Kimbrel threw in the match.
Pedro Strop was called on for mop-up duty, and if he loaded the bases and gave the Pirates a small glimmer of hope, Strop got Melky Cabrera swinging for a 3rd strike to end the game. It’s a big win for the Cubs, as they move into a tie with the Cardinals for 1st in the NL Central.
Nothing has changed in the past month. In the sense that nobody has been able to pull away and get comfortable. It’s probably going to continue to become a ride that is close until the regular season’s last day. The Cubs return home where they perform their very best ball.
For the Nationals, they are behind in their own divisional struggle, but with more than a month left to play with in the regular time, it wouldn’t be an impossible task to catch the Braves. They are just going to have to become hot and hope the Braves stumble. When the Nationals overlook on the NL East, they’re a Fantastic opportunity they visit the Wild Card Game, though.
