Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes could face a long spell on the sidelines after dislocating his kneecap on Thursday during his sides 30-6 win over the Denver Broncos.
Mahomes, last years NFL MVP, went back in misery during an offensive pile-on at the second quarter and confrontsat least three months out.
The 24-year-old may undergo a scan.
After the game, Mahomes tweeted:Everything looking great so far.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said hedid not know how severe the injury has been.
Were great with whatever direction that thing goes, he added.
Despite being hampered by a sprained ankle he suffered in the opening match against the Jacksonville Jaguars so much in 2019, Mahomes has taken on his good form out of his record-breaking 2018 season.
Mahomes, who headed his side since 1993 to their first AFC Championship game last season, has thrown 15 touchdowns and one interception this season.
The Chiefs, who brought in veteran Matt Moore to substitute Mahomes have a break till they host the Green Bay Packers on 27 October.
