(CNN) — American teenager Amanda Anisimova has pulled in the US Open after the unexpected death of her dad and trainer Konstantin Anisimov.
This season one of the most talented tennis players in the world — she became the youngest girl to reach the French Open semifinals for 13 years this year — the 17-year-old Anisimova had been expected to take part.
“We’re amazed and stunned by the unexpected passing of our father,” read a statement from the Anisimova family. “We love the outpouring of love and support during this tough period and ask you to respect our privacy. Thank you.”

Anisimov had transferred into the US out of Moscow in 1998. Amanda was born in New Jersey three decades later, less than two weeks before the September 11 terror attacks.
