Phil Simmons was reappointed three years after he was sacked from the position.
Even the 56-year-old prior opening batsman previously held the role from 2015-16, together with the Windies winning the ICC World T20 under Simmons before he was released because ofdifferences in culture and strategic approach.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) had drawn up a shortlist of applicants including Simmons, former batsman Desmond Haynes and Floyd Reifer, who oversaw West Indies disappointing World Cup campaign in England as interim coach.
Simmons, who directed Ireland until 2015 from 2007 and coached Afghanistan, will return to the position.

West Indies confront Afghanistan in six limited-overs matches and a Test in November, together with the show to be staged in India, in which Windies will remain for a white-ball excursion of the host country in December.
