That’s the 2019 NFL season’s first complete Sunday from the books and it served up plenty of talking points. Here are my views on performances and the huge storylines.
For months we’ve eagerly awaited the unveiling of a Cleveland Browns team laden with superstars such as quarterback Baker Mayfield, recipients Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry; along with defensive stud Myles Garrett. The Tennessee Titans – their week-one competitions – were designed to fly to Cleveland to make the amounts up and were assumed to be mere after-thought.
But the visitors won and handily by a 43-13 scoreline. The Browns were stifled by a ferocious Titans defense that recorded five sacks and 3 interceptions. But what was more worrying was that Cleveland did as much to beat themselves, committing a 18 penalties that are shocking. New head trainer Freddie Kitchens has a big week to get his group – which still needs to understand how to win with subject and consistently – straightened out
NBC Sports’ Peter King told me Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson did hardly any running during training camp and joined our coverage at halftime of our game on Sunday night. Remember, 2018 Jackson hurried an average of 17 times per game while only throwing in the area of 21 or 22 passes. His departure left a lot to be desired as a newcomer but not on Sunday.
In a 59-10 shellacking of the Miami Dolphins that were terrible, Lamar struck on 17 of 20 tries for 324 yards and five touchdowns. We need to see more since the Dolphins might just be the worst team in the league although it turned out to be a showing. It had been so easy for the Ravens that copy passer Robert Griffin III came off the bench and proceeded six of six to 55 yards and one score.
The Kyler Murray encounter didn’t seem like being a good one as the Arizona Cardinals looked like stubbing their fur. Murray fought from the early going – by completing only seven of 18 passes for 49 yards and one interception, he started.
Since the Lions took control of this match, the 22-year-old also required three sacks. But he balled outside since the Cardinals and Detroit performed a 27-27 tie and woke up at the fourth quarter. The Cardinals are, by no means, currently going for a quick fix but there is most definitely expect for the future given their rookie quarterback stepped up and enhanced his performance.
There has rightly been a gnashing of teeth when it has to do with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts lost star quarterback Andrew Luck to retirement fourteen days prior to the start of the season along with the Chargers went without banged-up safety Derwin James attack Russell Okung and holdout running back Melvin Gordon.
Since the Chargers emerged as 30-24 winners at overtime, courtesy of three Austin Ekeler 22, both teams played. As he subs because of his backfield 12, ekeler is costing Gordon leverage. I think they demonstrated that they’re capable of becoming playoff contenders this season while neither group was perfect.
There were just two observations which could be created concerning the Dallas Cowboys offense in 2018. One was much of this attack was predictable and paled into comparison such as New Orleans, Kansas City and the Los Angeles Rams.
Another was that most of the crime wouldrun through superstar rusher Ezekiel Elliott. However, during Sunday’s 35-17 thrashing of the New York Giants, it was the Dak Prescott series because the quarterback threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns. New offensive coordinator Kellen Moore dialed up a game plan, making the Dallas crime one value monitoring in the forthcoming months.
No Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski? No starting centre David Andrews who’s out injured for the year? No problem for a New England Patriots team that invented the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3 on Sunday. This one was never the Steelers as well as a contest, dare I say it, looked like they missed celebrities that were departed and troubled Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.
While JuJu Smith-Schuster had six catches for 78 yards running back James Conner carried 10 times for 21 yards against a New England shield that was dominant. The Pats were imperious and 42-year-old quarterback Tom Brady sublime. He threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns and also the wealthy are about to get wealthier. Like it or not, Antonio Brown is on his way. I’m composing my opening Patriots links to your Super Bowl at Miami now to get ahead of the game!
