Tony Finau, Patrick Reed and Billy Horschel will be the three big titles containing in this week’s BMW PGA Championship, but if more of their compatriots have made the trip?
The Wentworth showpiece moving to September is more perfect for those on the PGA Tour attempting to sample some big-tournament setting on the European Tour, so Rich Beem is surprised that so few made the trip…
It is great to see the men undergoing the BMW PGA however, to tell the truth and coming , I kind of expected to see a couple more here.
Kevin Kisner took European Tour membership, Xander Schauffele played at the Porsche European Open so it is a little strange why they wouldn’t wish to play , especially given the tournament date from the program.
So to get Patrick Reed Tony Finau and Billy Horschel in the big-name PGA Tour celebrities here.
I am surprised there are not more Americans, to be honest, although there are numerous European players that play compared to the European Tour which are in Wentworth.
Tony gets the should play more outside of the US. He explained at his press conference before that to be a participant, you want to play. It is wonderful to watch him come from their’comfort zone’ of the PGA Tour and also then widen his horizons, and he will be a much better player because of it.
Billy Horschel is making his first appearance here, and I believe he’s been a bit surprised by the scale of this event. He described that tournament as having a”significant feel” on it, also it’s great to hear him say that.
Perhaps these comments will attract more of their compatriots but we are going to have to wait and see. Even though some may want to escape this heat the possibility of traveling a long way to perform cooler conditions in a different environment won’t appeal to everyone!
But Billy is right about the major feel about the area. I have played it before May, but being here in the autumn it seemingly has a different setting, and also the strength of the field this week is clearly fantastic.
It is difficult to tell how Tony, Patrick and Billy can get on this week. Patrick a step above the other two, however, three are quality players that have experienced success.
Tony’s enormous length off the tee is clearly a major advantage for him however, from a standpoint that is ball-striking Billy Horschel includes a really good opportunity to contend this week.
