Lasith Malinga ripped through New Zealand’s top order using an astonishing four wickets as Sri Lanka triumphed in Pallekele.
Malinga became the only bowler to capture the feat in international cricket – having taken four in four at the World Cup from South Africa in 2007.
Only one player has matched the Sri Lanka skipper’s accomplishment in T20 internationals – Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, that eliminated four Ireland batsmen in as many deliveries before this year.
As the Black Caps were bowled out for 88, chasing Sri Lanka’s seemingly modest total of 125-8 malinga finished with characters of 5-6.
The carnage started when Malinga knocked Colin Munro’s leg stump back to assert his 100th T20I wicket – along with , three balls later, his tally stood at 103.
