For their forthcoming matches republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy says youthful Aaron Connolly is extremely much in his ideas.
Connolly has just been hammered into the Irish group for the Euro 2020 qualifiers at Georgia and Switzerland.
However, McCarthy says the weekend of that the 19-year-old twice for Brighton against Tottenham proves he deserves to be in the mix over the next fortnight.
I wouldnt have put him in the squad unless I believed he was (in contention), stated McCarthy.
He was excellent (contrary to Tottenham). His intentions were very good – I thought his very first one was exceptional.
His motion was good, he got across the defender and then, having experienced the first shot saved, he had the presence of mind to twist and place it in the internet.
He actually has got some personality on the pitch, thats for sure.

McCarthy remains optimistic that David McGoldrick and Shane Duffy may be fit in time to play a part in the qualifiers.
He said:I had a concept in Shane before on and he said hes feeling good.
I have not talked to David for a little while nevertheless (Sheffield United manager) Chris Wilder said they are doing what they can to get him fit.
Both lads want to be fit and, even if they could get there, Ill wait as long as I can.
