Sacked heterosexual marriage celebrity Israel Folau is currently returning to league and will play another month’s Oceania Cup for Tonga.
Folau had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia after composing on social media which”hell awaits” homosexual people.
The Tonga National Rugby League said Folau was cleared to play by the Rugby League International Federation.
“I’m so grateful to have the chance to represent God, my loved ones, my heritage and the people of Tonga,” said Folau, a devout Christian.
Prior to coming up on 2 November the 30-year-old, who has Tongan heritage, will confront a touring Great Britain side in Hamilton, New Zealand October.
Folau was one of Australia’s highest-paid athletes. He represented his country at league and also played Australian rules soccer before switching codes to rugby union.
He had been sacked club New South Wales Waratahs and by the Wallabies in May after his article. Australian officials stated Folau violated a gamers’ code of behavior.
But, Folau is suing the organisation and also claims that his contract has been unlawfully ended because of his Christian beliefs.
In symbolizing Tonga the full-back will be joined by his brother, John. John Folau and both rugby codes have played professionally.
“Both brothers also have registered to play league through the TNRL and therefore are eligible to play international rugby league fixtures,” the Tonga National Rugby League explained.
