“You played with your brothers and mates in the backyard and it was dog eat dog, but if you’ve finished, or between innings, you ran down the lake and then went for a swim or got on your bicycles as best mates.
“However, you played the sport as hard as tough as you could do to get the bragging rights on those guys and it wasn’t any different back then or even within this sequence.
“There’s some guys in the Australian team that I know very well. They are attempting to win the game for their team as far as they possibly can and I would like that the England boys to acquire as far as possible as well.”
Among Bayliss’ targets as head coach was supposed to overhaul the white-ball team of England after the 2015 World Cup, which saw them dropped out in the group stages.
“It had been very much a focus. When I spoke to [director of championships ] Andrew Strauss, how England played at the 2015 World Cup was not up to scratch and they wished to turn that around, but Test cricket wasn’t as a focus.
“It wasn’t like we only pushed that to the background and stated white-ball has become easily the most important. We knew this was coming up, this summer, with a house World Cup and also a house Ashes and also we all desired to be in a position.
“I mentioned to my wife before I return for this summer, I would love to win at least one of the trophies.”

“What I thought of this next day was that I didn’t actually realise how large a game or how good a game that was.
“When you are actually involved with the game, you are kind of thinking of tactics or what we can and should be doing, you are not really considering their amusement value, what the fans are watching.
“But waking the following morning and watching the reaction on my phone, and I likely got more messages in 24 hours than I get in a complete year!
“The lap of honour at Lord’s, it had been great to see the smiles not only on the faces of these players and the management staff, but the complete joy on the faces of everybody in that audience.
“It has been fantastic to participate in a World Cup win, however it is really the players who deserve the accolades. They’re the ones that have gone and done the difficult work. I think as a training team and a management staff supporting it, we are lucky to be involved inside and play with such a close role with the men which have been in a position to go out and get it done.”
Bayliss continues to be criticised for what’s perceived as a training style that was relaxed, at times and is frequently seen as a figure that was laid back
“Sometimes it is irked me a tiny bit when you find a number of that kind of media since they just don’t know what happens.
“I also allow the coaches we work with to do their tasks and speak to some of the gamers as well. It’s not as if we don’t get together and talk about each individual, the way the team is playing, but as the trainer or coach, I let them get on and do their task.
“We get together and share what we could talk to the batters or even bowlers around but it’s the 1 message”

“The issue England cricket have to answer isthe wickets that we play in four-day cricket – are they doing the job well enough so the players coming are much better prepared to actually play with at the next level?
“There are a whole good deal of good trainers and administrators at the county level. As we’ve got here operating with England, you speak to them, they’ve got the exact concerns.
“There are a whole lot of talented players right throughout the initial and second branch of county cricket. What sort of circumstances have we got to play in and how do we make it easier?
“They are the questions I believe have to be replied.”
