Adam Beard will link up with Wales’ World Cup squad in Japan early next week after having his appendix removed.
The 16-times restricted Ospreys lock was admitted to hospital in Wales ahead of the squad’s departure on Wednesday.
Wales’ opening World Cup game is contrary to Georgia in Toyota around September 23.
A Welsh Rugby Union spokesperson stated:”Adam Beard was admitted to hospital in Wales with suspected appendicitis by Wales group medics before their squad’s departure last Wednesday.
“He had his appendix removed uneventfully after that day and is recovering nicely. He will rejoin the remainder of the squad at Japan early next week”
23, beard, will be assessed on arrival together with the expectation.
Wales are likely to be without the fellow lock of Beard Cory Hill for this match as he continues his recovery from a stress fracture in his leg.
Hill was appointed in Wales’ 31-man World Cup set, together with the pool against Australia on September 29 being his goal.
