Bolton defender Joe Bunney was admitted to hospital after breaking his ribs and collarbone.
Bunney, that was among eight signings to join the club will remain in hospital for another 48 hours.
The left-back has played Rochdale, Blackpool and Northampton, but is still to make his Bolton debut.
A club statement read:”Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Joe Bunney has been engaged in a road traffic crash.
“The defender obtained medical attention for cracked ribs and a broken collarbone and is being supported by the club’s medical team.
“He will stay in hospital for the next 48 hours as a precautionary step.
“Everyone at Bolton Wanderers wants Joe a quick recovery.”
