A battle between two begins tonight when the Braves travel to meet the Mets. Let us break it down and examine which team to back Friday night.
The Braves are cruising together with a lead over the Washington Nationals whereas the New York Mets, the opponents tonight , are nine back as the season enters the home stretch, but showing existence. Atlanta is currently looking for their sixth consecutive win after taking two of three against the Dodgers.
Tonight, Mike Foltynewicz (4-5, 6.09 ERA, 1.47 WHIP) will attempt to keep the Braves’ winning streak after moving four-plus innings against the Dodgers where he yielded two runs on seven hits in a 4-3 victory last Saturday. The 27-year-old righty has won just 2 of the three starts since coming from the minors on August 6th and was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his two turns against the Mets in 2018.
New York will ship their genius, Jacob deGrom (8-7, 2.61 ERA, 1.05 WHIP), into the mountain on Friday night in which he’ll hope to duplicate his performance against last Saturday when he surrendered just one run on three hits in a 4-1 victory over the Royals. The 31-year-old right-hander last faced Atlanta on June 28th in New York when he allowed three runs on six hits over six full innings of work at a 6-2 loss, and so is currently 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA in three starts versus the Braves this season.
The MLB odds board reveals that the best online sportsbooks all have the Mets preferred in a contest between 2 teams that are equally on five-game winning streaks. Regardless of the fact that the Mets have a huge benefit in starting throwing tonight, this line seems a bit too steep on the Mets against the top dog in the NL East. Let’s not overlook that the Freddie Freeman of Atlanta is penalizing the ball having hit nine homers in his past 20 games and is batting .327 using four home runs and 10 RBI vs the Mets this season.
Atlanta has won eight of their 13 encounters against the Mets this season and there are numerous tendencies (see below) which are giving us a lot of a lean-to back the Braves in our MLB picks tonight, particularly if we are getting this type of healthy yield on a group that is rarely installed as a heavy underdog. Catch the juice and see that the Braves continue their winning ways on Friday night!
Last Score: Braves 4 — Mets 3
