Anthony Joshua cautioned”I have another chance” as he went face to face with Andy Ruiz Jr at a press conference in New York.
Where Ruiz Jr shocked Joshua earlier this year, before the rematch on December 7 in Saudi Arabia, live on Sky Sports Box Office the rivals met from the city.
IBF, WBA and WBO title-holder Ruiz Jr, wearing a sombrero, just broke from an extreme face-off when he noticed calls of”let’s go champ” from the onlooking Shannon Briggs, the former heavyweight champion from New York.
Joshua previously explained:”In my brief 11-year profession, in the amateurs to the experts, I’ve seen a great deal. I have definitely seen a good deal, although I would not say I’ve seen it all.
“There were times when I faced defeat as a amateur. My third struggle. Imagine I ceased then, there will be now. I dropped in the Championship quarter-finals. Envision I ceased then, there will be.
“I lost in the World Championship finals. Imagine I ceased then, there will be. Stopping isn’t in my DNA. I will continue fighting and fighting for boxing’s passion. That’s the place I belong.
“I was born with a fighting spirit. I know how to battle.
“People say,’you misplaced your names’. I say,’to lose something is not to get it back’.
“I have another chance on December 7. I didn’t have a warm-up struggle, I am not gun-shy.
“Shannon Briggs talks about the days he had been out and down, and no one believed in him.
“That is where’let us go champ’ comes into my life at the moment.”
Joshua then called on Briggs to shout his catchphrase and that he responded with a loudly:”Let’s go champ!”
Ruiz Jr said in New York:”That is where I became the primary Mexican heavyweight champion of the world.
“However, I understand Joshua wants his belts back. I understand how it feels to lose – I dropped to Joseph Parker when I believed I’d won. Joshua can bounce straight back again. My occupation is not to let him get back the straps.
“I’ve had doubters my entire lifetime, telling me I would do nothing because of my appearance. Because of how I looked.
“People are now able to say,’when he did it, I could do it’.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn included:”That is a gorgeous, brutal sport and every fighter deserves admiration but these two are excellent role models and amazing ambassadors. This might be the heavyweight event of our creation.”
Joshua and Ruiz Jr fulfilled in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday on the first leg of a social media excursion. They reconvene in London on Friday.
